How it works
What is portfolio look-through?Look-through replaces each fund in a portfolio by the assets it holds. Weighting every fund's sector, country and holdings breakdown by the fund's weight and adding them up shows what the investor actually owns — for example that three different 'global' funds add up to 65% United States and 25% technology.
How is the blended TER computed? The total expense ratio of each fund, weighted by its share of the portfolio. The annual cost per $10,000 is that percentage applied to $10,000. Only funds with a disclosed TER count; the coverage figure says how much of the portfolio they represent.
Why is the list of underlying holdings a lower bound?Funds disclose their largest positions; many active funds publish only their top ten. The aggregated holdings therefore include only what was visible, and the coverage figures show how much of the portfolio each breakdown is based on.
Can I do this for hundreds of positions? The free tool takes up to 20 positions. The portfolio endpoint of the API takes up to 1,000 per call and returns asset allocation, sector, country, region, credit quality, currency and top holdings with coverage on each block, ready for a client report.
