FundFacts in ChatGPT: fund and ETF research by ISIN, ticker or name
FundFacts API works in ChatGPT as a plugin on its remote MCP server: in developer mode (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web), add https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp under Plugins with OAuth and sign in with a free FundFacts account. ChatGPT can then look up, compare and look through ETFs and funds by ISIN, ticker or name, with the figures each fund house publishes and their date, shown as interactive cards.Published October 6, 2026What ChatGPT can do with it
Once the plugin is on, ChatGPT answers fund questions from FundFacts' figures instead of from its training data, and quotes the date they refer to. It can:
- Look up a fund or ETF by ISIN (
get_fund): fees and KID costs, the 1–7 risk indicator, top holdings, sector and country exposure, returns, volatility and drawdown, with the date of the figures. - Find an ISIN from a fund name, an issuer or a ticker such as IWDA (
search_funds, not counted). - Compare funds side by side on fees, risk, size, returns and concentration (
compare_funds; several ISINs per call from Starter). - Look through a portfolio and measure holdings overlap (
analyze_portfolio,fund_overlap; Pro, Scale and Enterprise). - Read a French SCPI: prices, distribution rate by year, occupancy, documents (
search_scpi,get_scpi).
While a tool runs, ChatGPT shows a status line such as "Reading the fund's documents…". The result then renders as an interactive card next to the answer (fund, comparison, look-through, overlap or SCPI). ChatGPT still receives the data, so follow-up questions work from the same call.
Add FundFacts to ChatGPT
- Turn on developer mode. On chatgpt.com, open Settings → Security and login and turn Developer mode on.
- Open Plugins. Go to Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins) and click +.
- Enter the server. Name: FundFacts. URL:
https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. - Create and sign in. Click Create, sign in with your FundFacts account and approve. No account yet? Sign up first: the Free plan needs no card.
Which ChatGPT plans
Remote MCP servers are added in developer mode, available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web. FundFacts API is not in ChatGPT's plugin directory today. Without developer mode, fund data in ChatGPT covers two other routes: a custom GPT whose Action imports the OpenAPI spec, or the JSON of one call pasted into the chat.
Why it signs in instead of taking an API key
ChatGPT cannot send an API key: the dialog has no header field. So it signs in with your FundFacts account (OAuth 2.1 with PKCE) and gets an access token that only works on the MCP server, never on the REST API. The connection counts against the same plan and allowance as an API key and is listed under Connected apps in the dashboard, where Disconnect cuts it off at once. OpenAI receives the tool results and processes the conversation under its own policy (privacy policy).
Prompts that work as they are
- "Give me a tour of FundFacts." (the
tourprompt, thenget_fundon the example fund, not counted) - "Find the Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF and give me its ongoing charge." (
search_funds, thenget_fund) - "Compare IE00B4L5Y983 and IE00B3RBWM25 on fees, 5-year returns and worst drawdown." (
compare_fundsfrom Starter; on Free, oneget_fundper fund) - "How much do IE00B4L5Y983 and IE00B3RBWM25 overlap, and which holdings do they share?" (
fund_overlap, Pro and above) - "What has the SCPI Épargne Pierre distributed over the last few years, and how full are its buildings?" (
search_scpi, thenget_scpi)
What it costs
Adding the plugin costs nothing on the FundFacts side. FundFacts API works on every plan, Free included: 15 lookups a month, no card. Each fund found counts as one request, exactly like the REST API; searches, misses and the example fund IE00B4L5Y983 are not counted. The Free plan reads one ISIN per call, so comparing funds in one call starts on Starter ($9.99 a month for 500 requests), and portfolio look-through and holdings overlap come with Pro, Scale and Enterprise (from $49 a month). When the month's requests run out, ChatGPT is told the reset date, and searches and the example fund keep working.
The same server works in Claude and in Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Codex, on the same account.
What it does not do
- No prices or quotes. Factsheet data re-read at most every 24 hours and a monthly performance series; prices come from a market-data API or a broker.
- Funds only. UCITS funds, ETFs, money-market funds and French SCPIs. Stocks, bonds and indices come back as not found.
- No advice. Published figures with their date; the server tells the assistant not to recommend buying or selling.
- Read-only. No tool touches your account, keys or billing.
Informational data, not investment advice.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a ChatGPT plugin for ETF research?
Yes. FundFacts API can be added to ChatGPT as a plugin on its remote MCP server, https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp. ChatGPT can then look up, compare and look through ETFs and funds by ISIN, ticker or name, with interactive cards and the date of the figures.
Can ChatGPT look up a fund by ISIN?
With FundFacts API connected, yes: get_fund returns the fund's fees, risk indicator, holdings, exposures and returns from the fund house's documents, with their date. A model answering from memory quotes figures from whenever its training data was collected, without an as-of date.
Which ChatGPT plans can add FundFacts?
Adding a remote MCP server needs developer mode, available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web. Other routes include a custom GPT on the OpenAPI spec.
Why does ChatGPT ask me to sign in instead of using an API key?
ChatGPT cannot send an API key: its dialog has no header field. It signs in with your FundFacts account (OAuth) and gets a token that only works on the MCP server, which you can disconnect in the dashboard.
Is the FundFacts plugin free?
Adding it is free, and it works on every FundFacts plan, Free included (15 lookups a month, no card). Each fund found counts as one request; searches and the example fund IE00B4L5Y983 are not counted. Portfolio look-through and holdings overlap come with Pro, Scale and Enterprise.
Does it give real-time ETF prices?
No. ChatGPT gets factsheet data re-read at most every 24 hours and a monthly performance series, not quotes, intraday prices or daily NAVs.
Is FundFacts in ChatGPT's plugin directory?
Not today. Add it in developer mode with the four steps on this page; it takes about a minute.
