MCP servers for fund and ETF data, compared (2026)

Several MCP servers give Claude, ChatGPT and coding agents fund or ETF data. FundFacts API covers European UCITS funds and ETFs by ISIN, with KID costs and the 1–7 risk indicator, on every plan including Free; EODHD, Finnhub, Twelve Data and Intrinio expose fund tools that follow your API plan; TickerInside is free for US ETFs, Alpha Vantage works with a free key, and Morningstar's server needs a licensed account.Published October 6, 2026

This page is published by FundFacts API, one of the servers compared. Facts on the other servers are taken from their vendors' own pages and repositories on 6 October 2026 (see Sources); "not stated" means those pages did not say. Directory and registry status come from Claude's connector-directory search and the official MCP registry the same day. Corrections are welcome through the contact page.

The criteria

  • Hosting: a remote server is a URL you paste into the client; a local one runs on your machine (stdio) and only reaches the apps on it.
  • Sign-in: OAuth (you log in with your account), an API key, or nothing.
  • Fund tools: dedicated ETF and fund tools, not just quotes.
  • ISIN and UCITS: whether the tools take an ISIN and cover European funds.
  • Cost to get fund data: the MCP connection is often free, but the data follows your API plan.
  • Claude directory and official registry: a listing lets people add a server from a list; it says nothing about the data.

The FundFacts API tools are get_fund, search_funds, compare_funds, analyze_portfolio, fund_overlap, get_scpi, search_scpi. In ChatGPT and in Claude on the web and desktop, results render as fund cards, comparisons, look-throughs and overlaps; other clients get the same figures as text. There are no prices: factsheet data and monthly series only.

Best for…

  • UCITS funds by ISIN, with KID costs, the SRI and cards in Claude or ChatGPT: FundFacts API. Free plan, 15 lookups a month; portfolio look-through and holdings overlap with Pro, Scale and Enterprise (VAT included). It is listed in neither Claude's directory nor the official registry: you add it by URL.
  • You already pay Finnhub, Twelve Data or Intrinio: use their server. Finnhub has nine ETF and mutual fund tools, Twelve Data is in both Claude's directory and the official registry, and Intrinio has an ETF X-Ray workflow. Fund data follows the plan: Finnhub from $500 a month, Twelve Data $999, Intrinio Enterprise from $1,250.
  • Global ETFs, ISIN included, at a lower price: [EODHD](https://eodhd.com/financial-apis/mcp-server-for-financial-data-by-eodhd). Its tools search by ISIN and resolve an ISIN to a ticker; the server is included on every plan and fund fundamentals need the €59.99 Equity Analyst plan. No KID or SRI fields are stated.
  • Free US ETF look-through with no key: [TickerInside](https://tickerinside.com/agent). Ten fund tools including overlap and look-through, 5,244 US ETFs, data under CC BY 4.0. No ISIN, no Europe, no prices.
  • A free key and both listings: [Alpha Vantage](https://mcp.alphavantage.co/). In Claude's directory and the official registry; 25 requests a day free. Its etf_profile tool exists in the source but is not in the published tools table.
  • Licensed Morningstar users: [Morningstar](https://developer.morningstar.com/direct-web-services/documentation/morningstar-ai-integrations/morningstar-mcp-server/overview). In Claude's directory, with holdings, X-Ray, screener and analyst research tools. A licensed Morningstar account is required.
  • Open source, on your own machine: etf-research-mcp for US ETFs (Yahoo Finance through an unofficial library, plus SEC N-PORT), or ETF Scout for UCITS ETFs by ISIN, whose README calls it a personal tool scraping services whose terms may not permit that at scale.

FMP's server is in Claude's directory too; it takes your API key in the URL and its ETF tool names are not listed on the vendor page.

How to add a remote MCP server

Claude

Open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector on claude.ai, give it a name and paste the server URL. OAuth servers then ask you to sign in. Step by step: FundFacts API in Claude.

ChatGPT

Turn Developer mode on (Settings → Security and login), open Plugins, click + and enter the name, the URL and OAuth. Step by step: FundFacts API in ChatGPT.

Cursor and other coding tools

Remote servers go in .cursor/mcp.json with the URL and, for servers that take a key, an Authorization header:

json
{
"mcpServers": {
"fundfacts": {
"url": "https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ffk_your_api_key"
}
}
}
}

In Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http <name> <url>, then /mcp to sign in. VS Code, Windsurf and Codex take the same URL and header; the MCP server page has each configuration.

How to choose

  1. Start from the funds. European UCITS share classes need ISIN support; US ETFs are covered by most servers here.
  2. Price the data, not the connection. Most servers are free to add; the fund data costs whatever the API plan costs.
  3. Prefer OAuth for assistants so no key sits in a chat client, and an API key for scripts and CI.
  4. Check the licence before an agent's answers reach clients: most cheap API plans are personal use.
  5. Ask the same question in two servers about a fund you hold, and compare the figures and their dates.

Frequently asked questions

Which MCP servers give ETF data?

FundFacts API, EODHD, Finnhub, Twelve Data, Intrinio, FMP, Alpha Vantage, TickerInside and Morningstar run hosted MCP servers with ETF or fund data; etf-research-mcp and ETF Scout are open-source servers you run locally. Their coverage and cost differ a lot: see the table above.

Is there an MCP server for UCITS funds by ISIN?

Yes. FundFacts API's get_fund takes an ISIN and returns KID costs, the 1–7 SRI, holdings and exposures for UCITS funds and ETFs. EODHD's tools search and resolve ISINs for global ETFs, and ETF Scout covers UCITS ETFs locally from scraped sources. Finnhub's and Intrinio's APIs take ISINs, but their MCP pages do not say whether the tools do.

Is there a free MCP server for ETF data?

TickerInside is free with no key for US ETFs. Alpha Vantage works with a free key (25 requests a day), FundFacts API's Free plan gives 15 lookups a month, and etf-research-mcp is free to run locally for US ETFs.

Which finance MCP servers are in Claude's connector directory?

Of the servers compared, Twelve Data, FMP, Alpha Vantage and Morningstar were found in Claude's directory search on 6 October 2026. FundFacts API, EODHD, Finnhub, Intrinio and TickerInside were not; you add them by URL as a custom connector.

Do I need an API key to use a finance MCP server?

Not always. FundFacts API, Finnhub, Twelve Data and EODHD (v2) sign you in with OAuth; FMP and EODHD (v1) take a key in the URL; TickerInside needs nothing. Coding tools such as Cursor usually send a key in a header.

What does a finance MCP server cost?

Connecting is usually free; the data follows your plan. Fund data starts at $0 on FundFacts API (Free), €59.99 a month on EODHD, $139 on FMP for holdings, $500 on Finnhub (US, billed annually) and $999 on Twelve Data; Morningstar requires a licence.

Can I use these servers in Cursor or Claude Code?

Yes, remote servers work in clients that support remote MCP over HTTP; check each vendor's page for the sign-in method your client supports. Add the URL to .cursor/mcp.json, or run claude mcp add --transport http in Claude Code. The MCP server page has ready configurations for FundFacts API.

Ask your assistant about a fund you hold

Create a free account (no card, 15 lookups a month), then add https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT or your coding tool.
