# FundFacts in Claude: a connector for fund and ETF data

> Add FundFacts to Claude as a custom connector: look up, compare and look through funds and ETFs by ISIN, ticker or name, with dated figures and cards.

FundFacts API works in Claude as a custom connector: add the remote MCP server https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp under Customize → Connectors and sign in with a free FundFacts account. Claude can then look up, compare and look through funds and ETFs by ISIN, ticker or name, answering from the figures each fund house publishes, with their date. On claude.ai and in Claude Desktop, the results also render as interactive cards.

> FundFacts works inside ChatGPT and Claude as a connector (a remote MCP server): ask about any fund or ETF by ISIN, ticker or name and the assistant answers from FundFacts' dated figures, fees, risk, holdings, exposure and returns, with fund cards, side-by-side comparisons, holdings overlap and portfolio look-through.

## What Claude can do with it

Once the connector is on, Claude answers fund questions from FundFacts' figures instead of from memory, and quotes the date they refer to. It can:

- **Look up a fund or ETF** by ISIN (`get_fund`): fees and KID costs, the 1–7 risk indicator, top holdings, sector and country exposure, returns, volatility and drawdown, with the date of the figures.
- **Find an ISIN** from a fund name, an issuer or a ticker such as IWDA (`search_funds`, not counted).
- **Compare funds** side by side on fees, risk, size, returns and concentration (`compare_funds`; several ISINs per call from Starter).
- **Look through a portfolio** and **measure holdings overlap** (`analyze_portfolio`, `fund_overlap`; Pro, Scale and Enterprise).
- **Read a French SCPI**: prices, distribution rate by year, occupancy, documents (`search_scpi`, `get_scpi`).

On claude.ai and in Claude Desktop, each result also renders as an interactive card next to the answer: a fund card, a comparison table, a portfolio look-through, a holdings overlap or an SCPI card. Claude still receives the data, so follow-up questions work from the same call.

FundFacts API is not in Claude's connector directory today, so it is added as a custom connector, which takes about a minute.

## Add FundFacts to Claude

1. **Open the connector dialog.** [This link](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=FundFacts&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Ffundfactsapi.com%2Fapi%2Fmcp) opens Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector on claude.ai with the name FundFacts and the URL filled in, for you to review. Or open that screen yourself, name it FundFacts and paste `https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp` as the remote MCP server URL.
2. **Leave the OAuth fields empty.** Leave the advanced OAuth client ID and secret empty: the connector registers itself.
3. **Connect and sign in.** Click Connect, sign in with your FundFacts account on the consent screen and approve. No account yet? [Sign up](https://fundfactsapi.com/signup) first: the Free plan needs no card.
4. **Turn it on in a conversation.** Check that FundFacts is enabled in the tools menu, then ask about a fund, or ask for a tour of FundFacts.

## Where it works

The connector follows your Claude account: added once, it is available on claude.ai, in Claude Desktop and in Cowork. The Free Claude plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors.

Claude Code adds the same server from the terminal, then `/mcp` to sign in:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http fundfacts https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp
```

Or install the FundFacts plugin, which adds the server and four skills on how to read and present the fund data, then `/mcp` to sign in:

```text
/plugin marketplace add fundfactsapi/fundfacts-plugin
/plugin install fundfacts@fundfacts
```

Claude Code is a terminal, so it shows the results as text, with the same figures. Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Codex are on the [MCP server page](https://fundfactsapi.com/mcp-server).

## Prompts that work as they are

- "Give me a tour of FundFacts." (the `tour` prompt, then `get_fund` on the example fund, not counted)
- "Look up IWDA with FundFacts: its ongoing charge, its ten largest holdings and the date of the figures." (`search_funds`, then `get_fund`)
- "Compare IE00B4L5Y983 and IE00B3RBWM25 on fees, 5-year returns and worst drawdown." (`compare_funds` from Starter; on Free, one `get_fund` per fund)
- "I hold 60% IE00B4L5Y983 and 40% IE00B3RBWM25. What is my real US exposure and my blended fee?" (`analyze_portfolio`, Pro and above)
- "What has the SCPI Épargne Pierre distributed over the last few years, and how full are its buildings?" (`search_scpi`, then `get_scpi`)

## What it costs

Adding the connector costs nothing. FundFacts API works on every plan, Free included: 15 lookups a month, no card. Each fund found counts as one request, exactly like the REST API; searches, misses and the example fund IE00B4L5Y983 are not counted. The Free plan reads one ISIN per call, so comparing funds in one call starts on Starter ($9.99 a month for 500 requests), and portfolio look-through and holdings overlap come with Pro, Scale and Enterprise (from $49 a month). The connection shares the account's allowance with its API keys; when it runs out, Claude is told the reset date, and searches and the example fund keep working.

## Your account stays in control

Claude holds an access token that only works on the MCP server; no API key leaves your dashboard. The connection is listed under Connected apps in the [dashboard](https://fundfactsapi.com/dashboard?tab=ai), with its last use and requests this month, and Disconnect cuts it off at once. Anthropic receives the tool results and processes the conversation under its own policy ([privacy policy](https://fundfactsapi.com/privacy)).

## What it does not do

- **No prices or quotes.** Factsheet data re-read at most every 24 hours and a monthly performance series; prices come from a market-data API or a broker.
- **Funds only.** UCITS funds, ETFs, money-market funds and French SCPIs. Stocks, bonds and indices come back as not found.
- **No advice.** Published figures with their date; the server tells the assistant not to recommend buying or selling.
- **Read-only.** No tool touches your account, keys or billing.

## FAQ

### Is there a Claude connector for fund data?

Yes. FundFacts API is added to Claude as a custom connector with the URL `https://fundfactsapi.com/api/mcp`. Claude can then look up, compare and look through funds and ETFs by ISIN, ticker or name, with the date of the figures.

### Is the FundFacts connector free?

Adding it is free, and it works on every FundFacts plan, Free included (15 lookups a month, no card). Each fund found counts as one request; searches and the example fund IE00B4L5Y983 are not counted. Portfolio look-through and holdings overlap come with Pro, Scale and Enterprise.

### Does it work on the free Claude plan?

Yes. The Free Claude plan allows one custom connector, which can be FundFacts.

### Is FundFacts in Claude's connector directory?

Not today. [This link](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=FundFacts&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Ffundfactsapi.com%2Fapi%2Fmcp) opens Add custom connector with FundFacts filled in; the setup takes about a minute.

### Does Claude get my API key?

No. The connector signs in with your FundFacts account (OAuth 2.1 with PKCE). Claude holds an access token that only works on the MCP server, never on the REST API, and you can disconnect it in the dashboard at any time.

### Does it give real-time prices?

No. Claude gets factsheet data re-read at most every 24 hours and a monthly performance series, not quotes, intraday prices or daily NAVs.

### Can Claude use it to tell me what to buy?

No. FundFacts returns the figures fund houses publish, with their date, and the server tells Claude not to recommend buying or selling. Use it to read and compare funds.

## About FundFacts API

FundFacts API turns any fund or ETF ISIN into one dated, structured factsheet (fees and KID costs, the 1–7 risk indicator, holdings, sector and country exposure, returns) read from the fund house's own documents: as JSON for your code, inside ChatGPT and Claude through its MCP server, or as a client-ready PDF factsheet.
