# Can I test the fund data API without signing up?

**Short answer:** Yes. GET https://fundfactsapi.com/api/v1/demo/funds/{isin} returns the complete payload for any fund that is already in the store, with no key, at 30 calls a minute per IP. It never loads a fund nobody has requested before (that returns 404 not_cached), so it is for seeing the shape, not for production. The free ETF overlap and portfolio look-through tools on this site run on the same data in the browser.

## The demo endpoint

```bash
curl -s https://fundfactsapi.com/api/v1/demo/funds/IE00B4L5Y983 | jq '{name, asOf: .data.dataAsOf, ter: .data.headlineMetrics.ter, risk: .data.riskRating, profile: .data.profile, top: .data.topHoldings[:5]}'
```

The JSON is identical to the authenticated endpoint's (`isin`, `name`, `cached`, `generatedAt`, `expiresAt`, `data`) minus the `plan` and `quota` fields. IE00B4L5Y983 (iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF) and IE00B3RBWM25 are always loaded; most large UCITS ETFs are.

Limits: 30 calls a minute per IP, and a `404 not_cached` for a fund not yet in the store. A free key (5 lookups a month) lifts both.

## The free tools

- [ISIN validator](https://fundfactsapi.com/tools/isin-validator): format and check digit, in the browser.
- [ETF overlap checker](https://fundfactsapi.com/tools/etf-overlap): shared holdings between two funds.
- [Portfolio look-through](https://fundfactsapi.com/tools/portfolio-look-through): aggregated sector, country and fee exposure for a list of ISINs.
- [Fund cost calculator](https://fundfactsapi.com/tools/fund-cost-calculator): what a fund costs in money over a holding period, from the cost lines of its KID; `?isin=` prefills a stored fund.
- [ISIN to ticker lookup](https://fundfactsapi.com/tools/isin-lookup): an ETF's tickers by ISIN, or its ISIN by ticker or WKN, from the LSE, SIX, Xetra and Euronext lists.

## The live demo on the home page

The [home page](https://fundfactsapi.com/#demo) runs a lookup in the browser and shows the response, and the [documentation](https://fundfactsapi.com/docs) embeds the full sample payload with every field explained.

## FAQ

### Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. The Free plan is 5 lookups per month with no card; sign up with an e-mail address or Google and the key is shown in the dashboard.

### Which ISINs work?

Any share class of a UCITS fund, ETF, money-market fund or open-end fund whose management company publishes a product page, factsheet and KID. Each share class has its own ISIN and is looked up on its own. Stocks, bonds and indices are not funds and return 404 fund_not_found.

## About FundFacts API

FundFacts turns any fund or ETF ISIN into one dated factsheet (fees and KID costs, the 1–7 risk indicator, holdings, sector and country exposure, returns) read from the fund house's own documents: as a client-ready PDF under your firm's name for advisers and wealth managers, as JSON through its API for developers, or inside ChatGPT and Claude through its MCP server.

FundFacts works inside ChatGPT and Claude as a connector (a remote MCP server): ask about any fund or ETF by ISIN, ticker or name and the assistant answers from FundFacts' dated figures, fees, risk, holdings, exposure and returns, with fund cards, side-by-side comparisons, holdings overlap and portfolio look-through.
