# Do different share classes of the same fund return different data?

**Short answer:** Yes. Each share class has its own ISIN and is looked up separately. The portfolio is shared, so topHoldings, sector, geography and assetAllocation match across classes of one fund; what differs is what the class defines: currency, hedging, distribution policy, TER, minimum investment, inception date, AUM, returns in the class currency, and the KID (risk indicator and costs). Use search to list the classes and pick the ISIN your users actually hold.

## Same fund, different payloads

| Field | Same across classes | Differs by class |
|---|---|---|
| `topHoldings`, `sector`, `geography`, `assetAllocation`, `creditQuality` | ✓ (same portfolio) | |
| `investmentObjective`, `benchmarkName`, `keyFacts.manager` | ✓ | |
| `keyFacts.currency`, `shareClass`, hedging | | ✓ |
| `keyFacts.distribution` (Acc / Dist) | | ✓ |
| `headlineMetrics.ter`, `costs.*` | | ✓ (institutional classes are cheaper) |
| `keyFacts.inception`, `keyFacts.aum` | | ✓ (per class where the document prints it) |
| `calendarReturns`, `annualisedReturns`, series | | ✓ (class currency, fees, hedging) |
| `riskRating` | | usually same; hedged classes can differ |

## Finding the classes

`GET /search?q=<fund name>` (free) lists every loaded class with `currency`, `shareClass` and `income`. The naming conventions ("A", "I", "Acc", "Dist", "H", "EUR Hedged") are explained in [share classes: Acc, Dist, hedged](https://fundfactsapi.com/blog/fund-share-classes-acc-dist-hedged-explained).

## Which ISIN to use

- For a client's holding: the exact ISIN on their statement.
- For a screener or comparison site: pick one reference class per fund (often the retail accumulating class in the fund's base currency) and store the mapping.
- For look-through and overlap: any class, since the portfolio is the same; the weighted TER uses the class you send.

## FAQ

### Do I pay once per fund or once per share class?

Once per fund found, so once per share class you request. For portfolio look-through the holdings are what matter, so one class per fund is enough.

## About FundFacts API

FundFacts turns any fund or ETF ISIN into one dated factsheet (fees and KID costs, the 1–7 risk indicator, holdings, sector and country exposure, returns) read from the fund house's own documents: as a client-ready PDF under your firm's name for advisers and wealth managers, as JSON through its API for developers, or inside ChatGPT and Claude through its MCP server.

FundFacts works inside ChatGPT and Claude as a connector (a remote MCP server): ask about any fund or ETF by ISIN, ticker or name and the assistant answers from FundFacts' dated figures, fees, risk, holdings, exposure and returns, with fund cards, side-by-side comparisons, holdings overlap and portfolio look-through.
